An NZTA, 50-sheet WOF book costs you around $7, and a MTA 50-sheet WOF books cost around $20 (with all the fees). The sting is everything that happens around then. You write all the vehicle details, including the VIN by hand, chase a WOF pad that wanders between bays, and rewrite lines when a digit is wrong. That is dead time. If your shop rate is $120 an hour, this means $2 a minute. 5 minutes of writing is $10 uncharged before you even check a tyre!
Paper scatters information. One inspector fills in a WOF book. Another needs the recheck and cannot find the original sheet. Now you have two people looking which is double-handling. Filing is slow, and retrieval is slower. When an audit or customer query lands, you dig through drawers instead of turning spanners. That is real opportunity cost, and it compounds every day.
Handwriting creates risk. Names get misspelled, O and zero swap places, and the notes are hard to read. Admin teams spend time decoding and entering the same details into VIC, which is another pass through the data. More passes mean more mistakes. Customers see messy handwriting on the check sheet, and it feels old school and difficult to read, rather than professional. That hurts trust and drags out repair approvals.
Storage adds friction. Old WOF books take space, boxes get moved, and records go missing. Rechecks suffer due to unnecessary wasted time. More unpaid minutes. None of this shows on an invoice but it shows on your weekly bank balance.
Do the Quick Math
Our existing eWOF customers tell us they save 5 to 10 minutes on average per WOF with our system. Run 5 WOFs in a day with a paper book, and you are giving away $50 to $100 in uncharged time. That stacks to $250 to $500 a week, $1000 to $2000 a month, and $12,000 to $24,000 a year.
A standard WOF book has fifty sheets. At five to ten minutes lost per sheet, you burn 250 to 500 minutes. At $2 a minute, that is $500 to $1000 gone per WOF book!
What eWOF Actually Does
eWOF from itsallauto puts the whole Warrant of Fitness flow on your phone, tablet, or computer. Take a photo of the rego label to pull vehicle details. Tick items as you inspect. Fail items from drop-down lists. Add comments with speech-to-text if you want. Store photos against the WOF check. Print a clean NZTA-compliant checksheet or email it. Rechecks are a couple of taps because everything is saved and searchable.
Change feels scary, and that is normal
You might slow down at first while you learn the best way to use eWOF. That is to be expected and perfectly normal. We provide free phone support to help you get started. After a week or so, most shops see real gains. Time savings, fewer frustrations, more convenience, a happier team, and customers who appreciate a tidy, readable WOF checksheet and your lift in professionalism. Dina - Surge AutoTech Limited - Auckland
"The system saves heaps of time, and I really love it. We don’t need to use those old books anymore, and our office admin finds it easier to read the check sheets, especially when things get busy and handwriting can get messy."
Phill Attwood - Owner of A & H Motors 2015 Limited - Te Awamutu
"Their system is simple to use, it's a great time saver and the efficiency of WOF rechecks is so much better when there's no great big dusty pile of inspection sheets to dig through."
Corey Townshend - Auto One Service Centre - Onekawa Napier
"Since December 2024, I’ve been able to record WOFs directly from my smartphone, saving time when a vehicle arrives for its WOF. Instead of walking to my office to grab paperwork, I can simply pull out my phone and input the customer details.
Matt Tretheway - Tramway Motors - Invercargill
"Massive time saver! Not only when doing a WOF check, but also when looking up previous checks to quote repairs or entering a recheck."
Tom - Rogers Motors - Kaitaia
"100 times easier than paper. Not everyone likes paper. Its hard to miss things as the eWOF system warns you.
Saves a lot of time. Just a few seconds to take a photo of the rego label to get the vehicle details, versus several minutes to hand write that all out. Its all been pretty straight forward for me. Its way more helpful."
