Exciting News – We’re putting an update out on the night of the 13th or 14th of August for a fast and simple way to prove you have confirmed the last 6 digits of the VIN during a WOF, in order to meet the NZTA requirements.
Catch VIN Issues At The Start
You start a WOF, jot the VIN, and everything looks sweet. Then VIC rejects the last six, and the whole job slows down. With itsallauto you confirm the VIN at the beginning, fix problems early, and keep the work moving.
Begin by taking a photo of the rego label on the windscreen. The eWOF system pulls the vehicle details, including the full 17-digit VIN. The VIN is not shown yet. Next, you either snap a photo of the VIN plate or manually enter the last six characters from the vehicle. The system decodes the photo and gives you an instant match result.
If the last six from the photo are wrong, you either take another photo or visually check the VIN and manually enter the details. If they are still wrong, you may need to contact NZTA. The NZTA phone number is built into the eWOF system.
Both the rego label photo and the VIN confirmation are saved in Inspector Notes. That gives you tidy evidence for NZTA audits and a clean story for the customer.
Proof You Can Trust
Early confirmation stops the classic character mix-ups and other data entry errors. You have photo-backed proof tied to the inspection, which keeps VIC entry smooth, avoids redo work at the end of the WOF (maybe the car has gone?), and keeps NZTA Compliance people happier for audit purposes.
What Workshops Are Saying
Neil – Barry Armstrong Motors – Waihi says:
“Going really good. I find that the system is going to be a great system. I’ve got three guys doing them and at the end of the day it saves the paperwork side of it. Rechecks seem to be coming up good and saving time. Also you are getting the right details on the checksheet. There is none of the wrong VIN/Chassis numbers or the wrong regos with the problem of zero’s and O’s incorrect written down or misinterpreted. That’s a real bonus as that type of human error can happen”
Who Benefits?
For mechanics and trainees the camera does the heavy lifting while you focus on the inspection. You confirm the last six of the VIN first, avoid late surprises in the VIC system, and glide through rechecks because notes and photos are right where you need them. It feels natural and keeps you in the flow.
For managers and admin teams the audit trail is stronger and the day is calmer. Inspector Notes store the rego photo, VIN match proof, and the final checksheet. Everything is legible and searchable, which trims phone calls, speeds quoting, and makes NZTA audits straightforward. Everyone works from the same clear evidence from the start.
